I-495 Inner Loop lane reduction for bridge construction
TRAFFIC ADVISORY: I-495, Inner Loop lane reduction for bridge construction effective 5 a.m. Friday, July 23 for 18 months
The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the three lanes on I-495, inner loop, after the exit for I-395 north will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes by 5 a.m. on Friday, July 23 for approximately 18 months. The lane reduction is to allow construction on a new overhead bridge as part of the Springfield Interchange Improvement Project.
On Wednesday and Thursday nights, July 21 and 22, 9:30 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., lane reduction preparation work will occur causing stoppages in all lanes for up to 15 minutes throughout both evenings until 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday mornings, July 22 and 23.
The lane reduction from three to two lanes will last for approximately three-quarters of a mile at which point the inner loop returns to its full four-lane configuration.
I-95/395 north motorists wishing to access the inner loop towards Tysons will have two dedicated ramp lanes all the way around leading onto the inner loop rather than reducing to one lane as currently exists.
State police and VDOT safety service personnel will be on site for motorist safety.
